The innovative new Leesa mattress

Not sure how much I believe in coincidence but hubby and I were recently discussing the need for a new mattress.  We have had ours for about 6 years and according to the experts you should change your mattress between 5 - 10 years.
So when Leesa contacted us offering to send one of their innovative luxury mattresses for us to try, I jumped at the chance.   Launched in America in January and in the UK in July this year Leesa has already enjoyed success.  I went online to the website (they have no shops)  to order the mattress which was a very straightforward process.  I actually really like Leesa's idea of buying online and not committing to making a decision on where you sleep for the next 5 years by awkwardly lying on a mattress for two minutes while a salesperson watches.   The mattresses are built to order and delivered within 6 days.  You can buy with complete confidence and if you don't sleep better within 100 nights they collect and donate your mattress, providing you with a full refund, how fab is that !

To be honest I was really looking forward to seeing the mattress when it arrived as the company explained it arrives in a box !  A BOX ! For a King size mattress ?  This is going to be interesting.  Images of the last time we took delivery of a mattress and struggling to get it up the stairs.  True to their word , less than a week later the box arrived and hubby was able to carry it up the stairs.  We couldn't wait to see the magic happen.

This is child's play.  We enlisted the help of Jarvis who took some convincing that there actually was a mattress in the box.

Out of the box, time to unwrap.  At this point I was still sceptical that it would actually expand to be a good quality depth.   The information on the mattress states that Leesa was designed by a 20 year mattress industry veteran with one mission – to deliver better sleep – by providing the best quality premium mattress possible, for an affordable price. It has all the benefits of a memory foam mattress, without the disadvantages of “sleeping hot” and the “sinking feeling”. The mattress has three layers (15 cm core support, 5cm contouring foam, 5cm cooling foam) What makes Leesa different is the top layer of Avena foam.  It’s similar to latex, but latex free – so also suitable for those with latex allergies.

Laid out on the bed, its the correct size but is still looking a little on the slim size.  Its similar to shrink wrap packaging so we were interested to see how it would react when hubby cut the plastic wrapping off.

This was the mattress within about a minute of it being unwrapped.

Then we decided that maybe it was supposed to go this way around.  It was already "plumping up"  It also comes with a removable, washable cover which is a real bonus.

After about ten minutes

 After a couple of hours

The mattress had been on the bed for about six hours by the time it came for bed.  I sat on the side and it was extremely soft.  I did think "this doesn't bode well"  I'm not one for super soft mattresses and also a little apprehensive, being a lady of a certain age, I do suffer from getting too hot at night, memory foam mattresses in particular can make this condition worse.  Anyway, it was the oddest thing when I lay down, I have been struggling to explain to people what it feels like.  Its super soft but supportive without being firm. Its the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on.  The first night both my husband and I honestly had the best night's sleep in a long time.  I did not get too hot and I only woke up once (I usually wake up at least three or four times every night).  We have had the mattress for about two weeks now and its fantastic.  Great sleep, really comfortable and best of all no aches and pains when we get up in the morning.

We certainly won't be returning our mattress after the 100 days for a refund but I have to say I applaud Leesa's policy of donating any returned mattresses within the 100 day period to a local charity, or if one can’t be found - will be recycled.   They also have One–Ten programme which donates one mattress for every ten sold. A recent event at the Bowery Mission in New York donated 300 Leesa mattresses and they recently launched One Earth programme, which plants a tree for every mattress sold, to help offset their carbon footprint.

If you are looking for a new mattress I would highly recommend you pop over to the Leesa website HERE  where you will find further details and at the moment a black Friday offer of £80 off the Leesa mattress and a £30 amazon gift card.
