Bedroom Style with Palms and House Plants

Here we go again !  Do you have a room that you feel never quite looks right ?  I feel that way about my bedroom. Its been blue and white, all white, grey and white
and now I have gone back to my first love; blue and white but with a twist.

The trend for botanical,  plants and jungle prints is still going strong. I couldn't bring myself to go full Urban Jungle, but having researched the benefits of having living plants not only in the home, but especially in the bedroom, I was keen to introduce them to my home.   Studies by NASA have shown that plants in the home really do help remove pollutants, enabling us to breath and sleep better.   I was pleased to discover one of the recommended plants English Ivy is already thriving in my bedroom.  Studies have shown it can improve symptoms of Asthma and allergies, good news for my asthmatic husband.

There is an old adage that says blue and green should never be seen!  I think that goes right out of the window thanks to my latest collaboration.  I was approached by Dekoria  an online textiles company who specialise in handmade blinds, curtains and furniture slipcovers as well as beautiful bedding and cushions.  I was delighted to browse their extensive selection of textiles and fabrics and came across a stunning palm print which Dekoria then handmade into a quality bed throw and cushions for me.

Inspired to be a little more adventurous,  I absolutely love how the fresh green and white of the palm print throw and cushions compliments the blue in the accessories and curtains in the room.  I always combine my thrifty finds with high street brands.  So when I found the pretty blue and white ginger jar for £2.00 in a local charity shop, I knew it would be perfect in my bedroom by taking the lid off and using it as a vase for some faux greenery.  The lid is ideal as a little pot to pop my earrings in of a night.  The tiny real plant was on sale at Aldi, left over from Mother's day.  The blue Walk book I bought from Anthopologie.  I am making a concerted effort to get fit and walking seems to a good starting point.

I've always preferred calmer, uncluttered style in my homes but since introducing the Dekoria bright, vibrant cushions, throw and the plants to the room, I am very tempted to put shelves above the bed and fill them with a variety of healthy house plants.  Not sure what my husband will think about that but I can always convince him that all those plants will be great for his well being.

Looking at this photo I am really irritated by the carpet.  Its just wrong.  Its sad really, when we moved into this house we had to wait six years until we could afford to lay carpet upstairs, six more years on and I absolutely hate it.  I want to go back to the bare boards like our living room.  Not only will it be easier to keep clean it will also be healthier.    I'm working on my husband to give in and rip them up.  I just know the rooms will look far better with wooden floors and rugs.

Another great find.  Its supposed to be a nut bowl but I love it as a trinket bowl to show off my silver necklaces.

This stunning vase also from Dekoria was much larger than I expected.  Handmade in Indonesian from bamboo it is the perfect blue to compliment my painting
